Dot and I did errands on our own this morning, and we had a good time visiting many different people and places. While waiting at the pharmacy, she bounced all over the floor pointing at all of the diamond insets, and told me quite a few numbers off of large price tags at her eye level.
I think Dot is getting the hang of our quiet reading hour before bed. She nearly cleaned out her bookcase bringing books back to the bed and reading them. She didn’t ask for any help, and just read them on her own. She reads the word “bay” now, she must have picked that up from one of the little animal books we have, and her new word this evening is “okay”.
After the last sanding job in the bathroom, I had removed the handle and backing from the tub, leaving a gaping hole. Dot had a bath but seemed pretty scared of it. The next night she screamed when we tried to put her inside, even when I tried getting in with her. For a couple of weeks she kept wanting a bath (she can say and sign bath) but would immediately cry, run away from the bathroom, and say “All clean!” with a worried look that we might not believe her and insist on the bath. I replaced the fixture and Bobby managed to get her bathed and shampooed even though she screamed the entire time. (After two weeks, we had to!) A week later we tried again with letting her watch me take a bath for a few days, and then after some fuss she settled down long enough to play a little. A couple of days of being scared to get in but having a good time once she was in the tub brought back my little girl who loved playing in the water. Now she is again asking for a bath every night. She is able to take all of her clothes off, now, so sometimes she is ready before we are! She even puts her toys away before getting out. Her new thing is whipping a wet washcloth around everywhere so everyone and everything is soaked pretty quickly. And of course, when she’s done, she’s “All clean! All clean!”
This is Dot on a typical morning, watching an educational video while I get breakfast ready.
Dot woke up on time but I was still laying down after only getting about four hours of sleep. She sat next to me and recited all her numbers up to twenty! She missed a few between 13 and 17 but it was still pretty amazing. 2, 8, 9, and 10 are definitely sounding like they should. Then she ran through the alphabet and she got nearly all of those, and a lot of them sound great, too. She can say blue and yellow well enough to distinguish them now, and still knows all the rest of them even though she can’t say them yet. She tries to say square and circle too but I can only tell if she’s pointing to one. Of course she loves to say Octogon! Over the last couple of months she’s started discovering how they occur in real life. She especially likes the circle inside the doorknob that locks the door, and has managed to lock the bedroom door quite a few times. She locked me out a couple of times, too.
Dot was pretty quiet and watched her video when we went in to get an ultrasound. She had a bit of a meltdown when we wouldn’t let her take the paper towels out of the trash, and it got a lot worse when the tech came in and started the ultrasound on me. Actually, she gets very upset whenever any doctor gets near me. Grandma had to take her out into the lobby. When Dot saw the ultrasound video later, she immediately said, “Baby! Baby!”
