Potty Animals

Daddy brought Dot’s new potty upstairs today.  We told Dot what it was, and although she wouldn’t sit on it, she put all her little toy animals in it and said, “potty animals”.

Potty Training Debut

We watched the Huggies Pull-Ups potty training video, and Dot loved the songs. There is a menu on the DVD that lets you play all four songs, and we did that quite a few times, with Dot saying, “Again! Again!” She knows the word and sign for Potty already (thanks Brainy Baby Talking Hands), and thought the cheer that spells the word out was great. Later we watched the Potty Dance video. She was RIVETED. She danced to the video, although she wasn’t mimicking the steps yet. That evening we made a big deal about ditching the diapers and put on her big girl pants (the Huggies Pull-Ups have the most ‘features’ of any training pants I have ever seen), and Daddy installed the new adult-child toilet seat. After a big debut, she is ready to start her official potty training!

Okay, she cried when I tried to put her on the potty, but hey, at least it is a start!

Pulling Down

Dot has started pulling her own pants and diaper down for diaper changes this week, so I’m getting my bathroom remodeling finished so she can start checking out what the toilet is for. (She’s not allowed into the bathrooms atm so she’s never really seen them used.) I always said she had to at least be able to get her own britches down before I even considered it, since I don’t want to have to do it all for her – I’d rather potty train HER, not ME, lol. Can you tell I’m not feeling rushed for potty training?

18 Months old! (+ a few days)

Dot had a checkup this morning. She hasn’t gained any weight (still 21.5 pounds) but has gotten taller. Dr. K was extremely impressed with her skills (she did manage to show off her reading and signing a bit) and said even though she doesn’t talk yet she is the most intelligent 18-month-old he has ever seen, and may be ready for potty training soon.
