Dot continues to impress. She was only half interested in her reading cards at the chiropractor today, but would still get mad when I put them away. She enjoyed making her new sign “fish” as she watched the fish tank. A woman stopped us as we were going into treatment and asked if she could really read. So we showed off a little bit. I think she is near 100 words, now. It is very cute to see her pick up her Baby Shampoo bottle, study it, and then touch her shoulders. (Shampoo and Shoulders look similar.) She has done the same thing in the past with “head” and “lizard”, and “point” and “toilet”. She definitely recognizes word shapes, and it takes her a few tries to differentiate the new word; she is starting to recognize individual letters and letter groups. I have been learning new signs for her and she seems to pick them up after one or two tries. Today we added tiger, lion, frog, and gorilla (which I always did “monkey” for, so relearning is a bit harder).
Dot finally has both bottom canines in but the top ones are still hanging around at the “almost” point. She has been really grumpy for weeks, now. I hope they come all the way in soon!
Dot’s new thing this week is taking her diaper off. I can put it on her, and after she stands up, it takes her about two seconds, the diaper goes one way, and she goes the other. She also takes her tank tops off. So she always has to have pants on. Today she kept taking her shirt off and running around in her skirt looking like a native.
We went to a bbq at Kate’s today. Dot recognized Carolyn across the driveway and immediately wanted to see her, but was rather shy about everyone else. She never hid behind anything, though, just remained close to us. She ate really well, then we went to visit Wesley’s mom, Jean, whom she hadn’t met yet. It was late by the time we got home and she was very tired!
I think my happy baby is back. She was pleasant the entire day, except for a little bit of grumpiness at bedtime.
