Chores for 2-year-old

Dot (at 2) is getting pretty good at putting her books away, helps put her toys away, throws trash away, takes her dishes to the sink, helps put laundry into the dryer, takes dirty clothes into the laundry room, helps reload the fridge with water bottles, and just started helping to put the silverware away. Except for helping her put her toys away (although she does sometimes), everything else she just started doing on her own. She tries to clean the floor and cabinets, too – I give her a baby wipe to clean with. =)

I woke up this morning to Dot and Daddy playing and giggling. It was very cute.

Rock Garden

Again Dot was very good while outside today, not straying off the driveway while in the front yard. We went to the back and I raked all of the pine straw and debris off of the future herb garden. I went and got a bucket, telling Dot that the rocks went into the bucket a few times while I walked back up the hill. Then I showed her by putting a couple of rocks inside. She spent twenty minutes putting rocks in that bucket while I raked up the rest of the area. I was so proud of her! Instead of allowing extra time for her to help me like I usually do, she actually saved me twenty minutes of work!

Christmas 2009

It has been an interesting and full year for all of us, largely due to Dot getting bigger and learning so much. She is 21 months old now, and has recently started her terrible twos! Really, though, she is a generally sweet, kind, active, and intelligent little girl. She likes to share everything, can read well over 100 words (and can sign most of them), is starting to say some words, and loves to help out around the house. She currently helps put laundry into the dryer, restock the fridge with water bottles, and throws her diapers away. She can also identify all of her colors, twenty basic shapes, knows most of the alphabet, can find Middle C and a few other notes on the piano, and can complete simple puzzles. She has had quite an exciting year of learning about her world.

Kitchen Organization

Dot spun around three times today when we watched the “milk go ’round”. She continues to find new things to climb and new things to get angry about (things we won’t let her climb).

I spent all day working in the kitchen area. Dot spent some time organizing her own little kitchen, arranging things on shelves, her fridge, and her microwave, and everything else went into her big pink bucket. Then she rearranged it some more.

Litterbox Training

This morning, as Grandma was cleaning the litter boxes, Dot grabbed an empty cereal bag that was next to the trash and took a scoop to help. She will be such a good little helper when she gets older!
